Shawn Ivey
Success Story
Shawn Ivey is a 48-year-old handyman who lives with his wife, daughter, and their four dogs. He enjoys drawing, bike riding, hiking, and exploring the outdoors.
Recently, Shawn experienced a stroke which resulted in left-sided weakness, left-sided facial droop, and slurred speech.
After his initial hospitalization, Shawn chose to continue with his medical care at Northern Colorado Long Term Acute Hospital (NCLTAH) based upon the recommendation of a family member who works there. Regarding his care, Shawn says he appreciates that the hospital allowed his family to be involved in his medical care plan.
“The nurses are really attentive, personable, and work hard,” he says. “They have a great sense of humor and have taken the time to get to know me and my story. The therapists really keep me going too. They keep me from getting down or depressed.”
Following his care at NCLTAH, Shawn will receive specialized rehabilitation at Northern Colorado Rehabilitation Hospital, which is certified in stroke rehabilitation. Following that, Shawn plans to go home and to be with his family and pets. He wants to ride bikes and experience the outdoors again as he continues to get stronger.
