Brigit Hurt

Success Story

Brigit Hurt is a 49-year-old mother of three from Fort Collins, Colorado. She enjoys being outdoors, visiting the mountains, swimming, and attending concerts. Recently, while leaving a family member’s house, her right foot buckled, causing her to fall and sustain multiple fractures. After being admitted to an acute care hospital, she was diagnosed with a fracture in the upper part of her shin bone and a dislocation of the outer part of her knee joint.

After several surgeries, Brigit needed additional time to heal. He insurance company recommended Northern Colorado Long Term Acute Hospital (NCLTAH) for continued critical care. Upon admission, Brigit’s main goal was to learn how to transfer while bearing weight on her right leg. She worked with physical and occupational therapists to relearn daily activities of living and improve her transfers, focusing on building strength and endurance.

“The therapy was awesome,” she says. “The staff listened and answered all of my questions while working together as a team. The doctors made me feel safe and heard. The nurses are top tier. Everything was good.”

Brigit stayed at NCLTAH for 11 days before transferring to Northern Colorado Rehabilitation Hospital (NCRH) for continued rehabilitation and healing. She now is focusing on becoming stronger and mastering transferring into her chair so she can return home.

Brigit looks forward to reuniting with her family and friends, resuming her normal life, and achieving her goal of attending concerts and sporting events, while traveling more.
