Doug Hickey

Success Story

Doug Hickey, a 66-year-old retiree, leads an active lifestyle that includes woodworking, working out, and cycling. Doug’s been married to his wife for 20 years and has four children and 12 grandchildren. He moved from Montana to Fort Collins, Colorado, to help his grandchildren run a healthy food truck.

Unfortunately, Doug recently became ill with a fever and was experiencing seizures. After going to a hospital, he was diagnosed with respiratory failure and encephalitis, which is inflammation of the brain.

After his initial treatments, Doug chose to receive continued critical care services at Northern Colorado Long Term Acute Hospital (NCLTAH) because he wanted to remain close to his family.

Doug speaks highly of the treatment he has received at the hospital. “The staff takes excellent care of me,” he says. “I love the collaboration of the entire team. Drs. Pearson and Blake are amazing, very caring, and always on the same page with care.” Doug also says he appreciates the nutritious meal options available at the hospital.

Doug says he’s excited about returning home and ultimately riding his bike with his wife once again.
